Abstract

This study was conducted in Tumpat, Kelantan specifically located at latitude of 6° 11' to 6° 13' N and longitude of 102° 9' to 102° 14'E. Remote sensing images from Landsat TM year 1973, 2005 and 2016 were analysed in this study which aimed to produce a current land use map and to understand the land use changes at three different year impact from flooding events. Images were analysed by ERDAS Imagine software using supervised classification methods. The classification produced four types of land use types namely dense forest, open forest, water and built areas. The latest land use and land cover map of Delta Tumpat was produced using 2016 image. Meanwhile, based on the three comparison years, the significant impact of the floods was found in 2016. By years, the percentage of dense forest had increased from 19.6% to 37.1% while open forest decline from 34.8% to 18.1%. The water area was found increased 7.1% in 2005 impact of massive flood event happen on the previous year. However, it decreased 5.3% in 2016 due to the development of new islands and therefore percentage of area covered with water became smaller. The build areas decline from 1973 to 2005 from 27.0% to 21.0%, but increased to 24.5% in 2016 due to the rapid development in the area.
