Geology and sandstone provenance of the Sambipitu Formation in Nglipar area, Gunung Kidul regency, Yogyakarta special province, Indonesia

The study focused on the geology and provenance of the sandstone within Sambipitu Formation of Nglipar area. Petrography analysis were made on eight samples along the Kedungkeris River and paleocurrent analysis were made at Sungai Ngalang of Sambipitu Formation. Study area is comprised of five units if lithology which is tuffaceous sandstone, volcanic breccia unit, sandstone unit, carbonate sandstone unit and limestone unit that ranging from early Miocene to Late Miocene. Petrographic analysis shows that the sources of the sediment in study area are recycled orogen. In addition, the paleocurrent analysis also show that the direction of flow of the sediment is in NW-SE direction.
