Abstract

Soil slope stability assessment in this research included the study of properties of soil, characteristics of the soil slope and their relationship. The factor of safety of the slope also be calculated. The properties of soil and characteristics of the soil slope are significant in the slope stability analysis. The study area is located at Kampung Paloh, Gua Musang, Kelantan. The total area of the study are is 25km2 and bounded with the coordinate of (102°13'l8"E, 5°3'52"N), (102°16'l "E, 5°3'52"N)(102°13'18"E, 5°] '1 l"N), and ( l 02°16'l "E, 5°1'l1"N). The objectives of this study are to update the geological map of the Kampung Paloh, Gua Musang, Kelantan with scale of 1:25 000, to investigate the properties of soil and slope characteristics of soil slope, and to determine the Factor of Safety (FOS) by Morgenstem- Price Method which used to construct slope stability analysis for soil slope by using Slope/W software. Geological mapping and engineering mapping was carried out to identify the geological features, the Laboratory analysis for properties of soil and the slope stability analysis. Geological map of Kampung Paloh, Gua Musang, Kelantan has
been updated and the lithology consists of limestone unit and interbedded of shale and mudstone. There are total 4 potential soil slope failure observed in the study area.
Based on the laboratory tests of soil, the influence of the properties of soil to soil slope stability be interpreted and the results are used in the calculation of factor of safety of soil slope. The soil samples are categorized into three groups which area silt with medium plastic, clay with medium plastic and clay with highly plastic. The factor of safety of the selected slopes are range in 1.403 to 2.945 which indicated there all are stable slope.
