Abstract

Fossil fuels are depleting as it is being used for decades. This crisis happens because fossil fuels are finite and the production time for fossil fuel is much longer than the consumption of it. Thus, few renewables energy as alternative has been explored such as solar energy, wind energy and biomass energy. Biomass energy that has been massively discovered and studied are biofuel, bio-gas, bioethanol and biodiesel. Recently, the research on biofuel production generated from algae has increase in great deal in order to replace and reduce the consumption of fossil fuels. This study is proposed to determine high yield of algae oil production from Chlorella Pyrenoidosa sp. algae. Algae Chlorella Pyrenoidosa sp. which generally can be found in freshwater will be cultured under stress condition where the nitrogen supply is suppressed. The oil produced by the algae will be extracted using Soxhlet extraction method. The oil produced from the algae will be analyzed using the GC-MS, Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry. At the end of the study, it is to prove that limited source of nitrogen will enhance the production of oil from Chlorella Pyrenoidosa sp. The finding of this study will provide the fundamental scientific evidence that due to the change in media composition, where insufficient nitrogen is introduced causing stress environment for the Chlorella Pyrenoidosa sp., yield higher volume of oil extract.
