Abstract

Medicinal plants play crucial roles in controlling health. Fortunately, potential remedy can be found in Christia vespertilionis (Butterfly plant). This plant is believed can capable of treating certain diseases. Some researchers stated that it contains essential nutrients. Thus, this plant was studied based on main objectives; (1) To determine the growth of C. vespertilionis using two different types of composts; compost solid and compost tea, (2) To determine the effect of organic materials on the plant growth under greenhouse condition. The seeds of the species gave a high germination rate (9l.43%). The main highlighted are different composts used; compost tea (CT) and compost solid (CS) given at different quantities respectively. There were 9 main treatments; 0g/pot + un-chlorinated water (CS1), 50g/pot + un-chlorinated water (CS2), 100g/pot + un-chlorinated water (CS3), 0g/pot + 10% concentration (CT1), 50g/pot + 10% concentration (CT2), 100g/pot + 10%c0ncentration (CT3), 0g/pot + 20% concentration (CT4), 50g/pot + 20% concentration (CT5), and 100g/pot + 20% concentration (CT6). Randomized complete block design with three replicates was applied. Plant height and number of the leaves were compared between control plants and plants treated with compost. Control plants showed lower growth performance compared to plants provided with compost Leaf area gave erratic results in most of the plants due to pest attack by insects and garden snails thus, used pesticides, regular monitoring and increase distance between plants were recommended.
