Abstract

Manihot esculenta or also known as cassava is a popular plant which can generate to produce varieties of products in Malaysia. Cassava alone have lots of varieties itself. They are cultivated widely in Selangor as it have valuable benefit to the agricultural industry and can be a side product for forestry produce. In this study, the cassava plant are divided into two part, which are the roots and leaves. This research is about to find the differences and similarities within the same species under the name of Manihot esculent sp. The study is using the basic characterisation method for identifying the plant physical characteristics and using antioxidant DPPH assay to measure the antioxidant percentage of the roots and leaves of cassava varieties. The study shows differences of the cassava varieties selected. From the research shows that the varieties of cassava have a slight difference in the physical properties. Based on the research shows that Merah have the highest antioxidant activity in leaves and its root compare to cassava Perintis variety, Gajah variety and Putih variety.
