Geology and geoheritage potential of Kg. Star Baru, Gua Musang

The study is conducted in Kg Baru Star situated in Gua Musang, Kelantan bounded between latitude N 04°58’22.31’’ to N 05°01’3.10’’ and longitude E 101°57’20.36” to E 102º0’4.54’’. There are still lots of undiscover places in Gua Musang that has unique feature to be explored. A study should be done to study and observed these places to identified the geoheritage potential that exist in this state. The study of the unique feature that have geoheritage potential of this state is focusing on the geodiversity that exist in Kg. Star Baru, Gua Musang. and to update the geological map in the scale of 1: 25,000. The geodiversity of Kg Star Baru can be protected if there is a geoheritage resource in the area. A conservation plan can be made to conserve the geodiversity of the area. Karst can be found in the study area along the Jeli – Jelawang Highway. Thus, the focus of the study is to evaluate the geoheritage resource on the karst landscape and geomorphology. The lithology of the study area is composed of dolomite, meta-sediment, volcanic rock and granite intrusion. This research is conducted by geological mapping and geoheritage mapping. Five systematic phase that is inventory, characterization, classification, assessment and evaluation is the element of the geoheritage mapping. The study area has a geoheritage potential as the geoheritage resource of the area possessed a significant geoheritage value.
