Abstract

This research entitled Geology and GIS-Based Landslide Hazard Zonation and Evaluation of Kg. Chas, Kuala Betis, Gua Musang, Kelantan. The study area is located in Kuala Betis, Gua Musang, Kelantan with the area covered is 5 km2. The aim of this research is to produce the geological map of the study area with scale of 1:25000, to evaluate the landslide causative factors and to produce the landslide hazard zonation map with scale of 1:25000. The geological aspects involve the study of geomorphology, stratigraphy, structural geology, and historical geology of the study area. The geological characteristics were analyzed through geological mapping method. The landform of the study area are hilly and mountainous area with elevation from 160m to 400m.Thereare four main lithologies in the study area which are granite, metasediment, limestone, and tuff.As it is in the intrusion zone, there is a major strike slip fault that occurred with the trend of force is in the North-South direction. The method used in generating the landslide hazard zonation map is by using the Geographical Information System (GIS) which is using the Weighted Overlay Method (WOM). The parameters that trigger the landslide to occur were analyzed and overlaid in order to generate the landslide hazard zonation map. Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data were used to extract the parameters. The study of the past landslide in the study area were done by using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) to identify the changes of the vegetation and to locate the locations of the past landslides in the study area. The results showed that the landslide hazard zonation map were divided into 5 classes. Class 1 is no hazard, class 2 is low hazard, class 3 is medium hazard, class 4 is high hazard and class 5 is the highest hazard. Based on the land slide hazard zonation map, the study area is covered with a low hazard of land slide and the probability of land slide to occur is low.
