Abstract

In this study, nanocellulose from different part of kenaf fibre which is core fibre and bast fibre obtained from mill waste prepared using acid hydrolysis method with the pre-treatment such as delignification using Kraft pulping technique, multistage of bleaching and using H2SO4 have been done under vigorous stirring. The yield obtained was allowed under centrifugation method under 10 000 rpm and the final yield was dried using freeze drying. The prepared nanocellulose were characterized by X- Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transformation Infrared (FTIR) and observe the morphology using optical microscope. XRD shows the crystallinity showed the increasing of crystallinity index of both fibres. The crystallinity of nanocellulose yield from kenaf core and kenaf bast are 41.2% and 39.1% respectively. The presence of amine (NH2), alcohol (OH), and carboxylic functional group were confirmed by FTIR analysis. Based on the morphology of all yield from core and bast fibre, nanocellulose are successfully obtained due to cellulose structure become small particle due to cleavage of glycosidic bond during acid hydrolysis.
