Abstract

In this modern era, bookcase is a basic furniture that are -widely used in every household. With the modernisation of technology, the basic free-standing bookcase has evolved into various designs to fulfil a buyers and users interest by following the latest trend. However, some of the bookcase measurements available in the market were not specifically created to smaller users such as kids. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to determine the acceptance level of new design concept of the bookcase for kids with ergonomics and space-saving characteristics. In obtaining the data needed, a survey is done by handling out questionnaires of purposing a new design concept of bookcase for kids to a specific population, where the population selected for this study are primary school librarians and counsellors. At the end of this research, approximately 53.68% of the population are still uncertain with the ability of existing bookcase for kids in terms of ergonomics. Thus, 30% of the population have chosen design B out of four designs as the new design concept of bookcase for kids with value added of hidden table and chair. As a solution, this new design concept of bookcase with ergonomics and space-saving factors is specially design for kids that contributed in the optimization of safety, comfort and space-saving factors.
