Abstract

Fish is a predominantly wide-ranging on the food market that contains a variety of nutrients shown to own useful effects on human health. Fish is not only an important source of protein, but also contain rich contents of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, selenium and calcium. Despite the positive health effects, fish may accumulate contaminants due to the high levels of fat and protein that can induce harmful effects on human wellness. After years of globalisation, population growth and industrialisation, the world's most critical air, water and solid waste problems are from developing worldwide. There are early studies that have identified the rise in the pollution of particular heavy metals in freshwater systems all around the world, especially in rivers. This study was analysed the heavy metals residues in fish muscles at Jeli market by using atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). The results that obtained from the study, the average of heavy metals concentration in fish species of two different part from wet Jeli market (Atule mate, Rastreiliger kanagurta, Auxis thazard and Nemipterus japonicas) were arranged in the decreasing order which are Zn > Pb > Cu > Cd. Thus, it also contribute to the effective monitoring of both environmental quality and the health of aquatic species inhabiting the aquatic ecosystem. The analysis of heavy metal composition in fish can help to identify the more detailed and specified of public hazard that are related with contaminated fish consumption.
