Abstract

Mah Meri is an indigenous tribe located in the south of Port Klang, Selangor. According
to history, the Mah Meri tribe was found in Peninsular Malaysia. The Mah Meri tribe
from Kampung Sungai Judah is categorized in Senoi group. They have their own culture and
practices. This study focuses on the Mayin Jooh dance a traditional dance owned by Mah Meri
culture. Used for special event as Hari Moyang, welcoming guests and other social function.
This research is focused on dance elements implemented in the Mayin Jooh dance performed
and discovering the importance of Mayin Jooh dance to the society of Kampung Sungai Judah,
Carey Island. By conducting the observation and interviews, the study found that this Mayin
Jooh dance has elements applied in their dance which is movement, costume and music.
Besides, this Mayin Jooh dance is important and should be inherited by the younger generation.
