Gerik-Jeli highway is located to the west from the region of Jeli, Kelantan which is interconnected to Gerik, Perak in the east and going further down into Lunas, Kedah. The study area is mainly consisted of hilly and valley terrain. The study area covers the total of 25 km2. The main objective of the study is to initiate a geological study around the area of Gerik-Jeli Highway as well as to produce a geological landslide susceptibility map. Jeli district is geographically located within the central belt, specifically located to the east side from the Bentong-Raub suture area that is consist of Permo-Triassic metamorphic rocks alongside the existence of sedimentary rock of deep to shallow marine origins. The stratigraphy unit of the study area in Jeli district are the Kemahang granite, Telong formation, Mangga formation and Tiang schist, whereas the orogeny of Malaysia is theorized by the subduction between the continental plate and the oceanic plate alongside a granite distribution in the Batu Melintang-Sungai Kolok where the type of igneous rock is discovered to be formed as pyroclastic and flow types within the sedimentary rock, originated from a batholith and small stocks. Lithologically, the main type of rock dominated in the study area are granite of igneous rock. The drainage pattern of the study area is shown to be mostly consisted of dendritic drainage pattern. The drainage is also shown to be oriented parallel against each other in north-west direction. Dendritic drainage patterns are the most developed in an area where the pattern is developed when equal erosion on all direction is present. It is believed that the presence of igneous rock in the area is what caused the formation of dendritic drainage pattern to be common. There are many geological structures especially along the Pergau river within that area. The geological information of this area was outdated, so conducting this research will produce more updated data and detailed geological analysis of the study area.
