Evaluation of Plant Growth Promoting Activity of Locally hoisted Methylobacterium sp. on Mung Bean (magna radiate) and Thai SuperSweet Hybrid Ft Maize (Zea mays L.) Growth. ABSTRACT The concern of using cheesiest fertilizer and its bad effects to the environment has resulted the call to produce an environment friendly alternative, biofertilizer. Methylobacterium sp. is pink pigmented facultative methylotrophs (PPFMs) that have the ability to promote the growth of plants. Thus Methylobacterium sp. was chosen to be the subject of this study. The plant growth promoting activity of four strain of Methylobacterium sp., EPPD I , ENPD3, EPPM I and ENPM1 are tested in seed vigour index and pot study. In seed vigour index, mung beans and corn seeds are dipped in the Methylobacterium sp. cultures and were left in the petal dish for 7 days. The length of the shoot and root for mung beans and com seeds were measure and recorded. Mung beans that receive treatment from strain EPPD1 were observed to shows a distinct growth difference. The treatment had not shown any distinct growth difference in the case of com seeds' shoot and root. In pot study, the effect of Methylobacterium sp. cultured are tested and compare. Treatments are being assigned to the pot. For treatment of bacterial, Methylobacterium sp. cultures are poured into the soil. For the treatment of chemical fertilizer, chemical fertilizer is added at day 10 and 28. For the treatment that include both, Methylobacterium sp. cultures are poured into the soil and chemical fertilizer is added at day 10 and 28. The result has indicated the plants that receive treatments from strain ENPM3, EPPD I and ENPD1 have almost the same height with those who are being treated with chemical fertilizer. The two experiment meant that Methylobacterium sp. has the potential to be a biofertilizer that can substitute chemical fertilizer.
