Abstract

Entrepreneurship is used as a poverty alleviation strategy for its dynamic process which reveals the phenomena, dispersing traits, a venture driven and pooling resources that are recognised globally in achieving the economic goals. The governmental institutional efforts in the heart of any programmes contain entrepreneurship as an appropriate socioeconomic catalyst to upgrade the livings of the poor citizen. This study explored the entrepreneurial livings of the poor Kelantanese Malay petty women entrepreneurs to ascertain whether entrepreneurship really comprehends the aim and truly helps them in exiting their poverty status. The study evaluated the background on the causes of poverty, identified the issues affecting poverty, and confirmed on the success or failure of entrepreneurship towards the women entrepreneurs. A few of them succeeded through the misfortune but few others were still deterrent. However, they still conduct petty business as their way of living. In these cases of poverty, there is an element of fate. Respondents for this study were twenty poor women taken from Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat 2YEP (2 Years Exit Policy) programme list. The ages of the women were 32 to 58 years old with the median age of 49. Qualitative data were collected through face-to-face semi-structured interviews, direct observations, and field notes; hence, analytically examined. The domain of the study confirms on the effect on three interlinking Theories of Poverty; Behaviour, Structural and Situational.
