Abstract

“La gente del arrozal” narra la historia de Lahuma y Jeha y sus siete h as cuyo sustento depende del arrozal.

La vida de la familia comienza a desintegrarse cuando Lahuma muere Eras contraer una enfermedad al pisar sin querer una palmera de espinas. Jeha se ve oblig da a asumir el rol de su marido. Ella y sus hijas sufren lo indecible pero la vida ha de seguir.

La narrative continua con las vicisitudes a las que paulatinamente se enrentan Jeha y sus hijas; sobreviven a una inundacion y sufren el azote de plagas de cangre ds y gorriones. En su lucha por la supervivencia, Jeha acaba perdiendo la razon. La resp jnsabilidad recae entonces sobre los hombros de sus hijas.

“The People of the Rice Field” tells the story of Lahuma and Jeha and their seven hectares whose livelihood depends on the rice field.

The family's life begins to disintegrate when Lahuma dies Eras contracting a disease by accidentally stepping on a thorny palm tree. Jeha is forced to assume the role of her husband. She and her daughters suffer the unspeakable but life has to go on.

The narrative continues with the vicissitudes that Jeha and her daughters gradually face; they survive a flood and are plagued by crabs and sparrows. In her fight for survival, Jeha ends up losing her mind. Responsibility then falls on the shoulders of her daughters.
