Abstract

SME is one of a growing industry in the country that would help the economy of the country by providing employability and improvent the GDP of the country. It is important to monitor SME performance to maintain the productivity of the production, growth and competitiveness of the company. One of the ways to maintain the performance and productivity of the production area is by evaluating the capacity of the production to meet the demand of the consumer. This paper is a case study in analysing the impact of capacity constraint in silkscreen production faced by one of SME in Terengganu. This case study used descriptive analysis to describe the total sales data, fishbone diagram to evaluate the causes and effect from the problem, and SWOT and TOWS analysis to understand the company inside strength and weaknesses and outside opportunity and threat and TOWS analysis to suggest a new strategy to be adapted to the company. The finding shows, there is the capacity constraint that has cause bottleneck in the production area and exhaustion of labour which cause production error. Besides it was found that the company also has demand exceed the capacity of production. Strategies selected from TOWS analysis is used to recommend the company to improve their issue and problem found in the production area which is by forming a strategic alliance to share capacity with competitor and improving marketing strategies of the company smooth out the peaks and fill in the gap between the fluctuation of demand.
